“I want to move to Spain” is a wish or dream that many people have. These people have either enjoyed holidays in Spain or have seen programme's like “A Place in the Sun” which show people living their dream in the sun.

Spain is a wonderful country with so much to offer. It is a vast country which is split into seventeen autonomous regions which are like countries within a country. Each region is different, some of them even speak different languages, and each one has its own history, culture and flavour. Spain is known for its excellent climate, friendly people, quality beaches, interesting culture and great tasting food and wine. No wonder so many people say “I want to move to Spain”! But where do you want to move to?

The popular areas for immigrants are:

  1. The Costa Blanca – The Costa Blanca, or White Coast, is a very popular area with British, German, Dutch and  Scandinavian immigrants as well as being a popular destination for tourists. It is located in the Valencia region, on the Eastern coast of Spain, and is on the Mediterranean Sea. Its beaches are some of the most beautiful in Spain, many of them being Blue Flag beaches. It stretches all the way from Denia to Torrevieja and incorporates the lovely city of Alicante with its international airport. The Costa Blanca has something to please everyone – fine sandy beaches, pretty harbour towns, traditional white pueblos, resorts packed with attractions and facilities and a diverse range of properties.

  2. The Costa del Sol – Situated on the southern coast of Spain in the Andalucia region, this area is the other popular costa with immigrants. The Costa del Sol, Sunshine Coast, stretches all the way from Nerja to Gibraltar and used to have a reputation for package holidays, high rise resorts and was nicknamed the Costa Crime, due to its popularity with British criminals. However, that was a long time ago. Torremolinos and Marbella have high rise apartments and busy seafronts, but there are many pretty towns, like La Cala and Estepona, and unspoilt inland towns and villages. Malaga is the main city of the Costa del Sol and has many facilities, including an international airport.

  3. The Costa Calida – The “Warm Coast” is the coastline of the Murcia region and is famous for the luxury La Manga Club resort, which is popular with celebrities, golfers and sportspeople. La Manga strip is the strip of land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor lagoon. There are beautiful beaches on both sides of the strip. The area around Mazarron and Puerto de Mazarron is also very popular with British and German immigrants. The region offers a wide range of property, wonderful beaches, an international airport (Murcia airport at San Javier) and the lovely cities of Cartagena and Murcia.

Other areas to consider when considering moving to Spain are Almeria, a province in Andalucia which is known for being the setting of many Spaghetti Westerns, the cultural cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Granada, which offer a whole host of amenities, job possibilities and business opportunities, shopping, nightlife and culture. Whatever kind of life you want to lead, you can live it in Spain.
